Vishay's VCNL4040 fully integrated proximity and ambient light sensor is suitable for applications such as handheld devices, laptops, tablets, industrial and consumer devices.
The VCNL4040 integrates a proximity sensor (PS), an ambient light sensor (ALS), and a high-power IRED into a small package. It integrates photodiodes, amplifiers, and analog-to-digital conversion circuits into a single chip through a CMOS process.
The 16-bit high-resolution ALS has excellent sensing capabilities and sufficient selection capabilities to meet most applications, whether it is dark or highly transparent lens designs. The company said that high and low interrupt thresholds can be programmed for ALS and PS, allowing the component to use minimal microcontroller resources.
