TouchNetix announces a fully integrated aXiom touchscreen chip that provides new 3D sensing capabilities by detecting in-air gestures, enabling touchless functionality in a variety of automotive, industrial and consumer environments.
TouchNetix's single-chip aXiom technology delivers a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) more than 100 times higher than traditional touchscreen controllers on the market, and enables proximity sensing 10-15 cm above the screen surface for a more intuitive HMI.
According to TouchNetix, the functionality provided by the aXiom chip can be achieved without additional sensor electrodes, board-level components or other sensing hardware. As a result, these 3D and contactless user interface functions are implemented at the lowest possible system cost, especially compared to alternative sensing technologies such as infrared sensing or cameras. The aXiom family of chips supports screens from 5" to 55" and has a wide range of aspect ratios.
Vegard Wollan, CEO of TouchNetix, commented: "I am delighted to introduce 3D and touchless technology that has revolutionized the touchscreen industry. Our intuitive gestures allow for more hygienic and safer use of touchscreens in a variety of settings. We have a Series customers launch products with 3D and contactless capabilities, and throughout this year, many of our customers and partners will have their solutions available worldwide."
