U-blox has added two items to its cellular LTE Cat 1 portfolio. U-blox LenA-R8 contains a GNSS receiver based on its M10 platform. U-blox Lara-R6 is the smallest LTE Cat 1 module with global coverage. Together, these modules include five certified global, multi-regional and regional product variants, simplifying logistics and improving design flexibility for developers.
These modules offer a future migration path for data flow applications with 4G technology for device manufacturers facing the coming sunset of 2G and 3G networks. In addition, they offer out-of-the-box connectivity to MQTT Anywhere and MQTT Flex through the company's Thingstream platform, providing low power, low cost connectivity, and seamless roaming around the world.
The LarA-R6 provides reliable signal and reception in challenging coverage areas such as indoors and in use cases where LTE voice is required. The Professional-grade module family offers dual Rx antennas. Its unique feature set makes the module an excellent cellular modem for telematics, tracking, health applications and alert panels, smart meters and POS devices. Security-centric modules provide trust roots, secure startup, and secure communication with regular security updates.
The LenA-R8 standard grade module family is targeted at customers in the tracking and telematics markets in an effort to minimize costs associated with their BOM and data charges. The compact module balances price and performance with a single Rx antenna and is targeted at customers deployed in EMEA, APAC and South America. It supports a wide spectrum of 2G fallbacks, using a single SKU to provide maximum roaming coverage for tracking applications worldwide.
All models in the series support CellLocate, the company's cellular network-based location service, for obtaining coarse location data even in the absence of GNSS signals.
