The TPS6420x is a non-synchronous step-down controller, ideal for systems powered by a 5v or 3.3v bus, or for applications powered by 1 lithium-ion battery or 2 to 4 NiCd, NiMH or alkaline batteries. These step-down controllers drive external p-channel MosFeTs, allowing for design flexibility. To achieve maximum efficiency over a wide range of load currents, the controller uses a minimum on-off time control scheme that consumes only 20 μa of static current.

The minimum turn-on time is usually 600 ns (TPS64203), allowing the use of small inductors and capacitors. When disabled, current consumption is reduced to less than 1 μA. The TPS6420x comes in a 6-pin SOT23 (DBV) package with an operating temperature range of -40 °C to 85°C.
