Goodfellow has introduced a unique line of ultra-fine wires, including microfilaments made from materials such as copper, nickel and platinum.

The full range of products has been launched to meet the need for miniaturization in various industry sectors, including biosensors and medical devices, as well as smart devices, aerospace and aviation, for a wide range of applications.

These products are less than 1μm in diameter and are cast in a unique way to form a continuous glass insulating coating. The new portfolio includes mixtures of different metal bases, such as copper and nickel, several precious metals including gold, silver and platinum, and alloys such as iron-based alloys.

"Miniaturization is a hot topic in almost any industry right now," commented Joel Aleixo, Global marketing manager at Goodfellow. Whether it's aerospace, electronics or medical engineering. The continued demand for smaller, lighter, more accurate and more efficient components has led to the development of several micromanufacturing processes and techniques -- and thanks to the hard work of Goodfellow's technical team, we are proud to introduce these wires."

Aphrodite Tomou, Goodfellow Technology Manager, commented, "At Goodfellow, we are known for keeping a close eye on these technological advances, while keeping pace with all these diverse and evolving research and industry trends."

The glass insulation in this new line has high electrical strength, a wide operating temperature range (from -100C to over 400C), chemical inertia, radiation resistance and pressure resistance. These features are crucial in emerging technologies.
