The ISL9212A is an integrated circuit (IC) optimized to provide redundant safety protection for lithium-ion batteries against charging system failures. IC monitors input voltage, battery voltage, and charging current. When any one of the three parameters exceeds its limit, the IC turns off the internal p-channel mosFETs to remove power from the charging system.
Block Diagram
In addition to the above protected parameters, the IC monitors its own internal temperature and turns off the p-channel MOSFeTs if the mold temperature exceeds +140°C. Together with the battery charger IC and the protection module in the battery pack, the charging system using the ISL9212A has three level protection and dual fault tolerance.
Typical Applications
The IC is designed to turn on the internal pet slowly to avoid inrush current when powering on, but will quickly turn off the pet when an input overvoltage is detected so that the power can be removed before any damage occurs. The ISL9212A has a logical warning output to indicate failure and an enable input to allow the system to remove the input power.
