Mouser currently offers Maxim Integrated Products' MAX25530 four-channel automotive backlight drive. The drive integrates 4 I² C controls, 150mA LED backlit driver and 4 output TFT-LCD) bias in a 40-pin, 6mm x 6mm chip to help engineers reduce the design footprint of the dashboard, center information and navigation display.
The device integrates a positive boost converter, a negative boost converter, two charge pump drivers for powering the TFT bias, and a boost /SEPIC controller for powering up to four strings of leds in the display backlight. For larger and higher resolution displays, TFT bias and LED drivers are required. The drive supports larger screen sizes and higher resolution by providing both positive and negative analog power voltages, which are required for LTPS, and it provides higher resolution and lower cost than currently used amorphous silicon panels.
In terms of design support, the company also offers the MAX25530 Evaluation Kit, a fully assembled and tested surface-mount PCB that provides a complete power management solution for automotive displays. The kit can be configured in standalone mode or I²C mode. It provides an I²C interface and works with a MINIQUSB+ adapter board or a third party I²C master board. The evaluation suite also integrates Windows-compatible software that provides a simple GUI for practicing the functionality of the MAX25530 IC.
