     Microchip Technology Inc. has released a SAMA7G54 ARM Cortex A7 based MPU running at up to 1GHz. The company is committed to preserving the lowest power MPU portfolio. Allows developers to design low-power stereo vision applications with more accurate depth perception.

     The SAMA7G54 includes a MIPI CSI-2 camera interface and a traditional parallel camera interface. The new devices extend this low-power trend to Linux-enabled 1GHz performance-level MPUs by offering flexible low-power modes and voltage and frequency scaling. It can easily enter and exit the available low-power modes and supports dynamic voltage and frequency scaling. When used in conjunction with the new MCP16502 PMIC, this MPU allows embedded designers to fine-tune their end application for optimum power and performance while optimizing for the lowest overall system cost. The MCP16502 is supported by its mainline Linux distribution for the SAMA7G54.

     “The SAMA7G54 offers designers a low-risk path to developing power- and performance-optimized AI solutions for edge deployments,” said Rod Drake, vice president of Microchip’s 32-bit MPU business unit. “Designers can now create high-performance imaging and Audio-centric AI applications without the need for more power-hungry multi-core MPUs. "

    It also provides multiple microphone inputs for enhanced source localization, improving the performance of smart speakers or video conferencing systems. For audio applications, the device combines enhanced audio features such as four I2S digital audio ports, an eight-microphone array interface, an S/PDIF transmitter and receiver, and a four-stereo-channel audio sample rate converter.

      Customers can work with the company's security experts to assess their security requirements and implement the appropriate level of protection for their designs. That's because the device also integrates Arm TrustZone technology with features such as secure boot, secure key storage, and accelerated encryption.

      Microchip offers an extensive family of Ethernet PHYs, switches and hubs, wireless products and CAN FD transceivers supported by the SAMA7G54. The company provides hardware and software development support for the device. The SAMA7G54-EK Evaluation Kit (CPN: EV21H18A) features connectors and expansion headers for easy customization and quick access to leading embedded features. This device is supported by Microchip's mainline Linux distributions. Bare metal framework and RTOS support is available in MPLAB® Harmony v3.
