The ST16C2550 (C2550) is a dual universal asynchronous receiver and transmitter (UART). It provides 44 pin PLCC and 48 pin TQFP packages, which are manufactured by advanced CMOS technology and can operate in the power supply range of 2.97 V to 5.5 V. ST16C2550 is an improved version of PC16550 UART, with higher working speed and faster access time. C2550 provides enhanced UART function, 16 byte FIFO, modem control interface, and data rate up to 4mbps.
Pin assignment
The onboard status register provides the user with error indication and operation status. System interrupt and modem control functions can be customized by external software to meet specific user needs. An independent programmable baud rate generator is provided to select transmit and receive clock rates from 50 bps to 4 Mbps. The baud rate generator can be configured as a crystal or an external clock input. The internal loopback function allows on-board diagnostics.
